You have most likely seen this picture of me holding my award at the recent DN21 Awards on Facebook. It was a fantastic evening and myself and everyone at #TheLab were thrilled to be nominated for not one but two awards. It was an honour to have been shortlisted for the two highly contested awards, Business Person of the Year and Business of the Year and awarded Silver as Business Person of the Year.
The evening was a fantastically run event and we cannot thank Marshalls Yard enough for their hard work organising an event that focuses on celebrating, rewarding and recognising local businesses in the Gainsborough. We were fortunate to get a table for the whole team, as the event actually sold out within 24 hours of the finalists being released. There were 10 award categories up for grabs including the two we were shortlisted for as well as Social Media award, which I am incredibly proud to say was won by our very own Head of Operations Jodie King and her business partner Sarah Myers’ for their campaign for their local gym, Vertical Joy & Vertical Fitness, that is located just around the corner from us.
It was a fantastic night for the team and I, to receive recognition as a result of my contribution to the development of staff opportunities as a result of our on-going growth but also having a partnership with the local Apprenticeship scheme and offering work experience opportunities within the town.
We have grown exponentially over the last year and I am proud of the work that our town produces as it does rival some of that from the capital. My team especially, I feel are the best team you can get in the local area, I believe in giving opportunities to those from the local Lincolnshire countryside. I have always wanted to create a culture where my colleagues want to come to work and love what they do, which I feel has been instilled in every aspect of our working environment.
To have been given this recognition is a fantastic accolade for the hard work that my team do, and although as my son would say “It’s not first though, it’s not gold,” I am still incredibly proud. The winner was Andrew Johnson from LEW, who are national electrical wholesalers, well-done guys!
Being shortlisted for Business of the Year in such a hotly contested category was another fantastic result for the team as we were up against businesses that had been trading since 1978, when the majority of my team were only babies, if that! To be able to compete with the likes of AMP Rose gave me true confidence in the abilities of my team and the future of this fantastic town. As a small business that doubled it’s team in the last 6 months, I think it is safe to say that the best is still to come.
Be sure to take a look at our photos from the evening, excuse a few of the selfies at one point we were having a “whose teeth are whiter” competition. Head to our Facebook page to see for yourself, while you are there be sure to “like us” to stay up to date with all our exciting news and any other awards that we will hopefully be winning in the near future. 🙂
